Synopsis
Yoon-sung, an East Asian studies scholar doing research in China, finds a young woman, Jingfei, in the wardrobe of a shaman who died during a sexual ritual — holding an ancient doll sealed in a crystal ball. At that moment, a crack runs through the doll's leg, and on a stage in Seoul his wife Seol-hwa's ankle snaps at the same angle mid-dance. Facing forced retirement and clinging to rehab, Seol-hwa is confronted with Jingfei, whom Yoon-sung brings home to stay for a month as a witness to shamanic rites. Jingfei, who lets sensuality slip from behind an innocent face; the dog that barks madly the moment it sees her; the warning from Granny Wang, the housekeeper, to beware the doll. Caught between jealousy and terror, Seol-hwa's suspicion spirals out of control.
